The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That
Whenever a significant honors show draws close, you'll find a demand to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of followers with niche passions.
Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. This is the request: There should be a category for puzzle games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types successfully include many game types, making space possible for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category that year
- A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game got ignored that year
- Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
These are often compact experiences, however the design behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world and have been for an extended period.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude so many good games out.
To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
